An SL update

By ServMe Nakamura

This post is about to touch on various subjects that are not related to each other, apart from the fact that they all have to do with Second Life.

Virtual Stock Exchanges is what I’ll start off with. There is WSE (World Stock Exchange), SL Capex (Second Life Capital Exchange), ISE (International Stock Exchange), DSE (Dreamland Stock Exchange), VSTEX (Virtual Stock Exchange) and very recently Ancapex has joined the ranks. If we scrap DSE from that list – it seems pretty dead and it actually took me quite some time to even find out how to open an account there – we are left with 5 stock exchanges that operate in or around Second Life.

An SL company or CEO thus has several options on where to list their company, and each of the exchanges has their problems and their strengths. Once a company is listed, investors (hopefully) believe enough in the business plan and the management team and they buy stock. I’ve done some numerous times and have invested in several SL companies apart from running my own, or working for another. It always irks me when companies suddenly move awat from one exchange to another, claiming either :

  • they do so in the best interest of their investors, yet they don’t consult with them
  • they feel that their business would prosper on another exchange

While the second claim could be seen as a good way to do the best for the company and thus investors, all exchanges – though there are differences – are basically the same. The group of people that drive and are active on a more involved level in the SL community is rather small and one runs into the same people over and over again. If one thinks moving from one exchange to the next will make people “forget” or see their company in another light, they are mistaken

Enough SL Financial news for now. I’ve opened up a beach shop on the SoulManager sim with free rental spots for people willing to sell their beach related items. I’m mostly thinking glasses, towels, bermuda’s and shorts, shoes and sandals, beach toys and things related to water sports (not that kind)

One of our current residents has expanded her lot considerably, and so far over 12,000sqm has been sold on the sim, with over 9,000sqm being public zone, and another 2048sqm dedicated to the TAGBALL arena. Things are getting rolling for sure. Land is still available, check out the commercial or residential listings on the virtualSecond.com site.

A Virtual Vision Studio, ran by Heni Hefferman has opened its new office, so feel free to come check out his work, or get yourself an xPhone : AVV is an official reseller for LifeBits.
